Establishing Connections On MySpace

Establishing Connections On MySpace
A resource that many business people and other types of
entrepreneurs tend to ignore is MySpace. The thinking about
MySpace tends to fall along the lines of 'MySpace is a
website for kids'. Interestingly enough however, nowhere on
the MySpace site does it make any mention of MySpace being
a resource for the young. In fact, MySpace requests of its
users that they be at least fourteen years old, the clear
indication being that MySpace is meant for those with at
least some level of maturity.

If MySpace isn't meant for the very young, does that mean
it's an acceptable destination for the mature? In other
words, are adults welcome on MySpace? The reality is that
MySpace doesn't belong to any particular demographic. All
that's required to establish a presence on MySpace is to
set up a MySpace profile, which is a quite simple process.
Some people unfamiliar with MySpace may think the MySpace
community will effectively chase out someone who doesn't
fit a certain background. Be assured that this is not the
case.

The better question to ask is whether it's worth it for a
business or independent entrepreneur to establish a
presence on MySpace to begin with. The answer here is
unequivocally yes. There are over one hundred million
profiles on the MySpace site. It's certainly true that not
every MySpace profile corresponds to one individual: many
people have more than one MySpace profile. But even
accepting for the fact that people have multiple profiles,
it's still a safe bet that there are tens of millions of
people using the MySpace site. With these types of numbers,
the possibilities for networking and maybe even advertising
are enormous.

MySpace has different sorts of organizations operating on
the site. These organizations are simply groups of people
who share common interests and goals and have come together
to share experiences. There are any number of business
related organizations on MySpace. It makes perfect sense
for someone with an interest in business to join one or
many of these organizations and to become established as a
part of the community. The ultimate outcome of being an
active participant on MySpace in this way could very well
be meeting people who can share your interests and goals,
and perhaps even meeting someone who can help you move your
own goals forward.

What's important to have a successful MySpace experience is
to allow for a natural development of relationships, and
not to push or force the issue. There's nothing wrong with
being assertive and reaching out, but draw the line at
being demanding. Offer yourself as an asset and a friend,
and others will typically respond in kind.

Prison or a JOB? 9 Great Reasons to be Self Employed

Prison or a JOB? 9 Great Reasons to be Self Employed
I thank God that I live in America. I truly believe in
rugged individualism and the Freedom to choose my career,
my religion, my spouse, the cars I drive, the house I live
in, etc. Freedom and democracy is also blossoming in other
parts of the world as well. And that is Wonderful!

But with the success and prosperity America has enjoyed, we
have also developed a few BAD habits. One is a growing
number of people in America feel entitled to "the good
life" withOUT doing anything to earn it. This is known as
the "welfare mentality." An example of "welfare mentality"
is an able bodied person who CAN work, but feels he does
not need to work, but expects OTHERS to pay for his food,
clothes, car, health insurance, etc. That is simply wrong!

But just as bad, and maybe worse, than the welfare
mentality is the "workfare mentality." This is an idea that
was popular in the mid 1900s and was preached like it was
an eternal truth."Workfare Mentality" is the belief that
"if I just work hard for a company, they will take care of
me. They will provide a good salary, good health care and
other benefits, and I will be "secure" working for
them. That may have been true at one time, but those days
are long gone! This is the "age of the entrepreneur."

You will never experience true freedom as long as you call
someone else your "boss!" In fact, speaking of freedom,
let's compare a typical "job" with being in prison!

Prison vs. a JOB (Just Over Broke)...

PRISON: you spend the majority of your time in an 8x10 cell

JOB: you spend the majority of your time in a 6x8 cubicle

PRISON: you get three meals a day

JOB: you only get a break for 1 meal and you have to pay
for it

PRISON: a guard locks and unlocks all the doors for you

JOB: you must carry around a security card and unlock and
open all the doors yourself

PRISON: you can watch TV and play games

JOB: you get fired for watching TV and playing games

PRISON: you get your own toilet

JOB: you have to share

PRISON: family and friends can visit regularly

JOB: speaking to your family and friends is prohibited

PRISON: all expenses are paid by the taxpayers with no work
required

JOB: you get to pay all the expenses to go to work and then
they deduct taxes from your salary to pay for those in
prison

PRISON: you spend most of your life looking through the
bars from the inside wanting to get out

JOB: you spend most of your time wanting to get out and go
inside bars

PRISON: there are wardens who are often sadistic

JOB: they are called managers!

You can break out of your "prison" of mediocrity! You can
tell your boss to "take a hike" and become the financial
success you've always dreamed of. But you need three things

Three things needed for Financial Success

1) A change of mind. You need to change from a welfare or
workfare mindset, to an "it's up to me to make it happen"
mindset.

2) A vehicle to take you where you want to go, financially
speaking. The best "vehicles" I am aware of are: investing
in Real Estate and Starting your Own Home Business. And
finally,

3) A mentor. Someone who has "driven" the vehicle you want
to drive and has become as successful and you want to be.
The old say goes: "You cannot learn to make $100,000 a year
from a person who has never made more than $40,000 per
year."

It is up to you!

Act now! Get out of that prison! Start a home based
business! With the advantages of the internet, you can
start a business for almost nothing. And, with the proper
mindset, a good financial vehicle (like a home based
internet business) and a mentor to help you, in a short
time you will become a wealthy marketer! And you will never
want to go back to "prison" again!

Do You Have Your Own "Business Success Criteria"?

Do You Have Your Own "Business Success Criteria"?
Do you have a crystal clear idea of what kinds of business
undertakings will align with your gifts, talents, passions,
and strengths? If so, you are in an excellent position to
choose the ventures that can give you the greatest
satisfaction and results.

Developing a set of "business success criteria" can help
you select a worthwhile endeavor with much deeper insight,
and thus establish the conditions for successfully pursuing
it.

Why is this critical? Many people wander into businesses,
projects, and professions opportunistically, meaning that
they grab something that comes along because it's available
and convenient. At times, this may be necessary for
financial reasons. But unless we understand our underlying
success criteria, we might not recognize the options that
truly fuel and inspire us -- those that are best suited to
our passions and strengths.

---------------------------------------------------------
From "Corporate Passenger" to "Entrepreneurial Driver"
---------------------------------------------------------

Identifying business success criteria can be easier for
some people than for others. For example, those who leave
corporate life to pursue an entrepreneurial endeavor might
experience a more roundabout discovery process. For that
reason, I'll use the following story to illustrate how this
process might occur.

Roger and Roberta have grown tired of the grind and
internal politics of corporate life. When their kids leave
home, they conclude that it's time to switch to something
more rewarding. But what? After a great deal of thought,
they decide to start by contracting out their services to
their former employers, which seems like the safest way to
begin their transition. Later, they believe they will
tackle some kind venture together, such as starting or
buying a business.

After spending many years working as jobholders, however,
their mindsets are still functioning in an employee mode.
Because their outlooks revolve primarily around meeting the
expectations of others, Roger and Roberta simply haven't
developed their own sets of values, visions, and goals.

In some ways, they feel as if they've been passengers in
the back seat of a moving car, unable to steer. To pursue
starting or buying their own business, they'll need to find
a way to move from the "passenger's seat" to the "driver's
seat" where they'll have better visibility and more control
over their destinies.

And although they don't realize it yet, doing this will
mean changing their mindsets. They'll first need to shift
from thinking like employees to thinking like contractors.
Then they'll need to start thinking like consultants.
Ultimately, they'll need to think like entrepreneurs. Along
the way, they will develop their own business success
criteria that will enable them to identify business
ventures, clients, collaborators, and employees that fit
them like a glove.

---------------------------------------------------------
How to Derive Your Own Success Criteria
---------------------------------------------------------

I work with clients to meticulously identify their life
passions, purpose, strengths, gifts, life themes, and core
values. By the end of that process, they have a list of the
specific ways in which they can evaluate future business
ventures, partners, clients, and projects. Some of the
criteria are more practical and others more lofty. But each
selected criterion seems essential to achieving balance,
fulfillment, financial return, and higher contribution in
their lives.

For example, your success criteria can include everything
from maintaining a healthy mix of work and recreation to
seeking only what you believe you could be the best in the
world at doing. Your criteria also can include many
practical considerations, such as the qualities you would
desire in potential collaborators. To spark your
imagination, consider using categories such as these, each
of which can hold more specific criteria:

* Alignment with passions and strengths
* Startup or acquisition requirements
* Potential for return on investment
* Control over working parameters
* Traits of potential collaborators
* Quality-of-life considerations
* Exit options or alternatives

Did you notice that the criteria are fairly neutral? That's
because only you (or your team) can decide just how
important each criterion is. You can then assign numerical
priorities, rankings, or weights to your criteria. In this
way, you'll create a powerful checklist for comparing,
scoring, evaluating, and ultimately selecting future
business ventures and related conditions, which will
thereby set the conditions for success.

To summarize, aligning your life passions with your
business purpose can help you define your business success
criteria. Especially when you shift into an entrepreneurial
mode after many years of corporate employment, those
criteria illuminate how to choose the right situations, and
establish the conditions for successfully pursuing them.
